Liverpool could have a hard time landing a couple of their centre-back targets going into January.
The main man linked with the Reds going into the latest winter window has been Marc Guehi.
However, Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update saying the most likely outcome is that the Englishman stays at Crystal Palace in January before leaving for free next summer.

So where does that leave Liverpool? Well, there are other names who have been mooted for an Anfield switch, but one of those players’ futures could be elsewhere if recent reports are accurate.
Bayern Munich consider concession for Dayot Upamecano
Dayot Upamecano has been linked to Liverpool this year amid his contract with Bayern Munich expiring at the end of June 2026.
However, Bayern chief Max Eberl stated last month that they would like to keep Upamecano.
He said: “Upamecano is one of the best defenders in the world. We would like to keep him at the peak of his career as an internal star signing.

“We are still talking. I believe I can sense that Upamecano feels very comfortable with the path we have chosen.”
Manager Vincent Kompany also labelled him as a ‘vital’ part of his squad, and it now looks like the German powerhouse could be close to agreeing a fresh deal with the stopper.
As per BILD, a deal in principle has been agreed from a financial perspective, but the main sticking point has been a potential release clause.
Upamecano wants any clause to become active one year after he signs the contract, while Bayern wanted it to be dormant until 2028.
However, the Bundesliga champions are now considering making a concession on that front, which would see the Frenchman pen fresh terms and have a €65m release clause from 2027.

The other centre-backs linked to Liverpool before January
While deals for Upamecano and Guehi in January now look unlikely, there are more potential options available to the Reds.
Nico Schlotterbeck is linked and is not expected to sign a new contract with Borussia Dortmund, meaning he will be available for free in the summer.
Whether Dortmund would be willing to accept a cut-price offer for the German this winter remains to be seen.
Elsewhere, the Premier League champions were contacted over Alessandro Bastoni last month regarding his potential availability in 2026.
