The San Antonio Spurs return to the Frost Bank Center to face the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Spurs enter the game with a record of 21-7, which is tied for the second best mark in the Western Conference. The Thunder, of course, are atop the standings in the West with a record of 26-3.
San Antonio is responsible for one of OKC’s three losses. As part of the NBA Cup, the Spurs handed the Thunder a 111-109 loss in Oklahoma City. The Silver and Black was led by Victor Wembanyama, who totaled 22 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks in 21 minutes off the bench.
Currently, the Spurs are riding a six-game winning streak (the loss in the NBA Cup finals to the New York Knicks didn’t count toward season stats). It’s the first time since 2019 that San Antonio has won six games in a row.
Relatively speaking, the Thunder have struggled lately. They’ve lost two out of their last four games after starting the season 24-1. In addition to the loss to the Spurs, OKC also dropped a game in Minnesota to the Timberwolves.
San Antonio Spurs Injury Update
There is an unfortunate injury update for the Spurs. Victor Wembanyama is listed as questionable for tonight’s game due to injury management. He’s still working his way back from a calf injury. Since his return, which came against the Thunder, the 7-foot-5 center has been coming off the bench and has been limited by a minutes restriction.
San Antonio Spurs Starting Lineup
Whether Victor Wembanyama plays tonight or not, the starting lineup for the Spurs is very likely to remain the same. Expect head coach Mitch Johnson to start Luke Kornet at center, Harrison Barnes at power forward, Devin Vassell at small forward, Stephon Castle at shooting guard and De’Aaron Fox at point guard.
If Wembanyama plays tonight, there’s almost a 100% chance that he’ll come off the bench. Since his return from a calf injury, the superstar Frenchman is averaging 19.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.5 blocks in only 20.3 minutes per game. In those four games, he’s shooting 56% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range.
Betting Guide: Spurs vs. Thunder
The Thunder are favored by 6.5 points and the over/under is 233.5 points. The smart money is on the Spurs. Take the 6.5 points and bank on the Spurs being able to at least keep things close.
