The Lakers star believes that keeping Gilgeous-Alexander out of the free-throw line is the main secret.
In the latest episode of The Mind the Game podcast, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James revealed the only way Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's offensive outburst can be stopped.
But James acknowledged that it would be difficult to apply, comparing the play style of the reigning league MVP to prime James Harden's Houston Rockets days.
“You got to keep him off the FT line, which is hard," James said. "He knows how to manipulate the game in a good way. He’s always looking for hands, arms, and elbows if you’re in his space, that’s just our game right now.
"It’s how James Harden was when he was dominant in Houston.”
Gilgeous-Alexander established his case as a phenomenal scorer, and a significant chunk of his scoring load can be traced to his craftiness in drawing fouls and securing free throws.
The Thunder superstar is currently third in free-throw attempts (9.4) this year, sinking 8.3.
Right now, no one has figured out how to contain the Canadian sensation. Averaging 32.5 points this 2025-26, Gilgeous-Alexander recently made a scoring history that puts him in an exclusive club with Wilt Chamberlain.
