The current NBA feels like the most talented the league has ever been. Superstars like Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are reaching new heights every day. Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo are also not too far behind. But Jaylen Brown’s wild claim puts him above all of them.
Brown helped the Boston Celtics win a championship in 2024, claiming the Finals MVP award. But despite also being a 4-time All-Star, Jaylen hasn’t ever been in MVP talks. He’s also largely thought of as a 1B star next to Jayson Tatum. So the fact that he thinks no NBA star is better than him is certainly a bold take.

“That don’t mean if you throw the ball out, that there’s a lot of dudes better than me on this court,” Brown said on a stream. “I don’t care, who you say right now. Ain’t nobody doing it better than me right now.”
That’s a big statement for Brown to make, if not a surprising one. Every superstar believes this to some degree, it’s what propels them to greater heights. However, saying it out loud like this is certainly a choice, as his peers will now have extra motivation to prove Brown wrong.

Brown is averaging 29.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. In Tatum’s absence, he’s been carrying Boston. They’re the 3rd seed in the East with an 18-11 record. With the context these numbers provide, it does make sense that Brown is simply feeling himself right now.
