David Adelman drops 'concerning' update on Cam Johnson's knee injury

Head coach David Adelman expressed a strong concern level over Cam Johnson's knee injury in the Nuggets' 131-130 loss against the Mavericks.

Besides absorbing a tough 131-130 loss against the Dallas Mavericks, Tuesday night couldn't be more devastating for the Denver Nuggets upon witnessing the unfortunate knee injury of Cam Johnson.

Battling for a defensive rebound over Cooper Flagg with less than 10 minutes left in regulation, Johnson landed awkwardly and extended his right leg. He was simply mincing in pain as the Nuggets' medical staff eventually assisted him to the locker room.

He didn't return to the game as Denver ruled him out with a knee sprain, finishing with eight points and three assists in 24 minutes.

In his presser, head coach David Adelman expressed strong concern for Johnson, who is set to undergo an MRI for his injury.

"It's concerning," Adelman said, via Denver Gazette's Vinny Benedetto. "I haven't heard yet. He was sitting in his locker. We'll find out. Imaging has to happen before anything else. It was not a fun sight to see, especially a guy that's been trending so well, playing so well the last month.

"He has really found his way with our group."

Acquired by the Nuggets from the Brooklyn Nets last offseason, Johnson experienced a significant slump to start the season. But the forward managed to redeem himself and effectively contribute to Denver, averaging 11.7 points, 3.6 boards and 2.4 assists while shooting 46.1 percent from the field.

The Nuggets have fought huge injuries already this season, headlined by the extended absences of Aaron Gordon (hamstring) and Christian Braun (Ankle).

"We've had a lot of these moments this year. It's deflating, but hopefully the news is better than it looked, because we know what Cam means to our team," Adelman concluded.
