Antoine Semenyo’s release clause makes him attractive to a number of clubs.
Semenyo is expected to leave Bournemouth in January, when clubs can activate his £65m release clause by a certain date in the transfer window.
Liverpool, United and City have all made their interest in Semenyo clear, and Chelsea yesterday checked on the conditions of what it would take to sign him.
But at the current time, there is no plan for Chelsea to pursue their interest any further. While Semenyo’s clause makes him attractive to a number of clubs, the forward’s wages could effectively be settled by an auction and Chelsea will not break their policy for any player.
The clause in Semenyo’s contract is understood to be £65m if an offer is made by an agreed deadline in the January window. That is made up of £60m in a guaranteed fee and £5m in achievable add-ons.
It is also understood that the release clause price will drop slightly next summer, but not below the £50m that was rejected at the start of the last window. Bristol City, who sold Semenyo to Bournemouth for £10m in January 2023, are due 20 per cent of any profit made on the 25-year-old.
