Manchester City appear to have landed the first big blow of the January transfer window

The January transfer window is now a week away from opening. Given that Manchester City are well-placed in three competitions they will be looking to strengthen Pep Guardiola’s squad to allow City push on this season. Ahead of the transfer window opening it seems that City have now struck the opening blow of the January transfer window. Multiple reports have emerged that state that Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo has chosen Manchester City as his preferred destination. It now seems that it is only a matter of time before City signs a player who immediately bolsters Manchester City’s attacking options.

Multiple reports indicate that Antoine Semenyo has chosen Manchester City as his preferred club.

David Ornstein has reported for The Athletic that Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo has decided that he wants to play for Manchester City. Furthermore, Ornstein reports that Semenyo’s desire to compete to win trophies has seen him choose a move to the Etihad. It is also reported by Ornstein that no deal has been agreed between Manchester City and Bournemouth. Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham have all been credited with an interest in signing Semenyo at one time or another. But the Ghana international now prefers a move to the Etihad. Lastly, Ornstein reports that Semenyo has a £65 million release clause in his current contract which must be activated by a certain date in January. It now looks to be a matter of time before City activates the release clause in Semenyo’s contract to sign him from Bournemouth.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City and Bournemouth will be in direct talks this week over a deal that will see Antoine Semenyo sign for City. Furthermore, Romano reports that Antoine Semenyo’s £65 million release clause expires on January 10. As per Romano’s report, City will approach Bournemouth to discuss payment terms and the structure of a potential deal that will see City sign one of Bournemouth’s most important players.

If City lands Semenyo they’ll have an attack that is versatile and powerful.

While Manchester City’s move to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth isn’t yet complete it does seem to be a matter of time before Semenyo becomes a City player. If City complete their move for the Ghana international he will give Pep Guardiola a powerful option to use on either wing or through the middle when required. Looking at Antoine Semenyo further as a player, his ability with both feet, his versatility and his power will give Pep Guardiola a versatile attack to employ that also has plenty of variety with two-footed players and players who can play in multiple positions.

Jeremy Doku, Savinho, Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki and Omar Marmoush can all play in multiple roles in Manchester City’s attack. Their versatility gives Pep Guardiolaa multitude of attacking options. Antoine Semenyo will further strengthen this area of the City squad. In Rayan Cherki, City have arguably the best player with both feet in European football. Antoine Semenyo is another two-footed player and that makes him a dangerous weapon to add to Manchester City’s attack. You add in Semenyo’s eye for goal coupled with his pace, power and workrate and he will add plenty to Manchester City’s attacking options.

Summary.

A deal that will see Semenyo sign for Manchester City isn’t yet complete. That must be said. But it is seemingly now only a matter of time before the Ghana international moves from Bournemouth to the Etihad. Semenyo has chosen his preferred destination and it doesn’t seem like City will take long to land the first blow of the January transfer window.
