Aston Villa’s latest injury news as we approach the final Premier League fixtures of 2025
Aston Villa return to Premier League action this weekend with an away trip to Stamford Bridge to play Chelsea. They beat Manchester United 2-1 at Villa Park last time out. Attacker Morgan Rogers got two goals against the Red Devils.
Unai Emery’s side are flying at the moment and have won their last 10 games on the spin in all competitions. They are sat in 3rd place in the table behind Arsenal and Manchester City. Here is a look at their latest injury news and return dates...
Will Aston Villa defender Pau Torres be fit to play against Chelsea?
Aston Villa defender Pau Torres has been sidelined over the past couple of games against West Ham and Manchester United. That has given Victor Lindelof the chance to get some minutes in the heart of the back line alongside Ezri Konsa. Torres is expected to return at the end of this month, with Emery providing this update on his condition last week: “Pau Torres, more or less, the same; one week or two weeks, something like that.”
As for fellow centre-back Tyrone Mings, he remains in the treatment room with a thigh injury. The 32-year-old has been with his current club since joining them from AFC Bournemouth back in 2019 and he has since been a good servant, making 195 appearances in all competitions. He is set to be available in early January and his boss said via the club’s official website on 19th December: “Tyrone is still injured, he's getting better, maybe in a few weeks, he's joining us.”
Aston Villa injury latest regarding Ross Barkley
Aston Villa playmaker Ross Barkley is further behind on his road to recovery than teammates Torres and Mings. He has been sidelined with a knee issue and isn’t set to play again until February at the earliest. His head coach has said: “Ross Barkley is still injured, longer than those two players (Mings and Torres).”
Barkley, 32, joined them in 2024 and has since provided them with more competition and depth in their squad. In addition, he injects valuable experience into their ranks and will be a useful character to have in and around the dressing room. He has had spells in the past with the likes of Everton, Chelsea and Luton Town.
Attacker Evann Guessand is away at AFCON with the Ivory Coast national team. The 24-year-old, who has 15 caps to his name, will be back for Aston Villa in mid-January. He made the switch to England last summer from OGC Nice.
He has since scored two goals in 19 games in all competitions under the guidance of Emery. The forward has taken a while to adapt to life in his new country and hasn’t been able to properly find his shooting boots yet. He is under contract until June 2030 so has plenty of time on his side.
Jadon Sancho is available again after missing the Manchester United clash due to not being able to play against his parent club. As for Harvey Elliott, he sat out against the Red Devils due to illness. Aston Villa will need to make checks on him ahead of their match against Chelsea.
