Chelsea players have changed their minds on Enzo Maresca amid Manchester City links - journalist

Despite his success last season, Enzo Maresca’s long-term future at Chelsea is up in the air right now.

Under the Italian, Chelsea were able to win the Club World Cup and Conference League. They also managed to qualify for the Champions League.

However, following an outburst where Maresca claimed that he had not been supported, there are now doubts as to whether he will still be at the club next term.

With Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City also uncertain, Maresca is being linked with a move to the Etihad.

Chelsea players fully behind Enzo Maresca

Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that the majority of players at Stamford Bridge are backing Maresca.

According to Phillips, there was a stage last season when several members of the Blues’ squad were not happy with Maresca’s style of play.

However, the journalist is now reporting that most of the dressing room are fully behind their manager.

It will now be interesting to see whether Maresca stays at Chelsea or joins another top club like City. The 45-year-old has already had a spell there, working as Guardiola’s assistant coach.

If Maresca does depart west London, Unai Emery could be a good replacement after the job he has done at Aston Villa.

Three players who will definitely want Enzo Maresca to stay at Chelsea

You can think of at least three Chelsea players who will be desperate for Maresca to remain at Stamford Bridge. One is Robert Sanchez.

Right now, you would have to say that Sanchez is one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League. However, that has not always been the case.

Last term, the 28-year-old really struggled at times, making some huge errors in goal. Yet Maresca stuck by him and has helped him develop into a solid No.1.

Like Sanchez, Moises Caicedo and Marc Cucurella have also improved under the Chelsea head coach. At this moment in time, they may be the best players in their respective positions. If Maresca goes, the trio will be devastated.
