Liverpool’s latest injury news as we approach the final Premier League fixtures of 2025

Liverpool manager Arne Slot is currently working with a depleted squad as he leads the champions into battle for the final time in 2025 against basement side Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Reds boss will have at least seven players unavailable for the Anfield encounter on Saturday due to a combination of factors such as injury, suspension and the Africa Cup of Nations.

Liverpool’s squad has been stretched throughout the campaign despite the club spending a record-breaking £450m on new recruits. They’ve under-performed in this year’s title race despite a thunderous start, but are slowly beginning to show signs of picking up form once again after a catastrophic run of nine defeats in 12 matches earlier in the year.

The Reds secured a key 2-1 victory over Tottenham last time out and have quietly gone six matches across all competitions without suffering a defeat. They’ll be the hot favourites to continue that run against a hapless Wolves team that are still yet to record a victory this season. Ahead of that match we round up the latest injury news from Anfield, including a key update involving club-record signing Alexander Isak:

How long is Alexander Isak out for?

The Premier League’s most expensive footballer, Isak, is set for at least a couple of months on the sidelines after breaking his leg when scoring in last weekend’s 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur. The Swede reacted quickly to put the ball past Vicario in the 56th minute, but was forced off the pitch in the process after a challenge from Micky van de Ven, which has left him with ‘significant damage’ to his lower leg.

A Liverpool statement said: “Alexander Isak today successfully underwent surgery on the injury he sustained on Saturday. The Liverpool striker was injured in a challenge in the process of scoring the opening goal against Tottenham Hotspur and had to be substituted. After diagnosis, an operation was completed today on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture. Isak's rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Centre, with no timeframe yet placed on his return.”

Arne Slot is hopeful the striker will play again this season, but for the time being Hugo Ekitike is the club’s sole striker option in a busy period of the season.

Will Cody Gakpo feature against Wolves?

Cody Gakpo chances of returning for Liverpool at the weekend are rated as 50-50 by manager Slot, who has hinted that the Netherlands international could return ahead of schedule. Gakpo is currently nursing a muscle injury which was expected to keep him out for a number of weeks but is progressing well with his rehab and should feature in either this fixture or the upcoming one against Leeds United.

Conor Bradley is in a similar situation to Gakpo. The Northern Ireland international picked up a muscle injury which cut short his afternoon against Tottenham Hotspur, but it’s not thought to be a problem that’ll keep him out too long. Bradley’s injury coincides with summer signing Jeremie Frimpong’s return from a hamstring issue and the former Bayer Leverkusen man will hope this is the perfect opportunity for him to kick-start his career in English football.

Key Florian Wirtz injury update emerges

Big summer addition Florian Wirtz was substituted in the closing stage of the match against Tottenham and was seen rubbing his hamstring at the time of the decision. However, Slot has arrayed any fears that the German international is likely to miss out. He told reporters: “Yes. Another example of a player who has to play a lot and is adjusting better and better and better to the Premier League. In an ideal world, I could have rested him a little bit more. He will be there for us again on Saturday.”

Elsewhere, Liverpool are without Dominik Szoboszlai due to suspension, Mohamed Salah due to AFCON and are also missing Wataru Endo and Joe Gomez due to their respective fitness issues.
