Chelsea and Barcelona are in the picture to sign River Plate’s Ian Subiabre.
Earlier this month, we covered claims from Argentina that both Chelsea and Barcelona have made approaches to sign the 18-year-old. It was also indicated he will be sold for €10-€15m in January, even though Subiabre has a €100m release clause.
Recent claims in Spain have covered Barcelona interest and the offer they made to sign him last summer. They made no mention of Chelsea.
This has reached Argentina, with DSports providing the latest. River Plate are well aware the winger is attracting interest from Europe as scouts from several clubs have followed him closely.
Hansi Flick’s side are one of the interested parties. It’s claimed the Catalan club see the Argentina U20 international as a strategic investment for the future. However, it won’t be easy for them to secure his services.
According to the report, Barcelona are facing ‘strong competition’ from Chelsea in the transfer race. It’s claimed Enzo Maresca’s side could ‘win the race’ to secure Subiabre’s services.
His €100m clause is mentioned again. However, Chelsea or another European club are unlikely to offer close to this figure to sign Subiabre.
