Welcome to a series focusing specifically on the talented schoolboys at Arsenal who are currently at Hale End – those in the U16s and below. The academy is based in E17, Walthamstow. The eighth article is on Jaden Maghoma.
A quick and skilful forward, Maghoma has made tremendous progress this season and can certainly be described as one of the most exciting prospects at Hale End.
Maghoma comes from a footballing family – his father Jacques was at Tottenham as a youngster and played in the Championship for Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday, while he also played international football for DR Congo.
In addition, his uncle Christian plays for Dagenham & Redbridge with another uncle, Paris, currently at Brentford.
Jaden is part of the Arsenal U15 squad but has often played above his age group this season and notably made his debut for the U19s as a substitute against Club Brugge in the UEFA Youth League.
Maghoma became the third youngest ever player to appear for Arsenal in the competition behind Luis Munoz and Max Dowman.
On the international stage Maghoma has been involved with England U15s – he scored a brace in a 7-0 win against Iceland.
This season Maghoma has scored hat-tricks for Arsenal U15s against Ipswich (twice) and West Ham.
It is anticipated that Maghoma will feature prominently for Arsenal U16s in the second half of the season, while he will also be aiming to make some appearances for the U18s.
The prospect’s directness is very impressive, while he has a good understanding of the game for a player who is just 14 years old.
