Liverpool target 'in advanced talks' to complete January transfer move after making 'positive…

Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool: Match Review

Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United have all been linked with Antoine Semenyo.

Liverpool look likely to miss out on signing Antoine Semenyo, reports suggest.

The winger is in high demand heading into the January transfer window. Semenyo has been in flying form for AFC Bournemouth this season, having plundered eight goals and three assists in 16 appearances.

But as the Ghana international has a £65 million release clause that is active on 1 January, the Cherries will be powerless to keep him on the south coast if that is met.

Liverpool are among those to hold an interest in Semenyo. The Reds are set to be without Alexander Isak for a couple of months after he broke his leg when scoring in last weekend’s 2-1 win at Tottenham Hotspur, while a long-term successor for Mo Salah is required.

However, several reports suggest that it is Manchester City who are leading the race. The Athletic claims that Semenyo’s preference is to join Pep Guardiola’s side although nothing formal has been agreed.

Meanwhile, BBC Sport says that Semenyo is in ‘advanced talks’ with City and the club believe they are ‘well-placed to sign the 25-year-old’ after making positive progress.

Speaking on Semenyo’s future, Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola said: “Semenyo right now is with us. He trained today with us. I know that there is lots of noise around him. It's not my concern, my concern is it doesn't affect his performances. It is not doing, he is very committed to the team and I hope we can keep him here.

"[It is a] situation we cannot control, but Antoine right now is our player. Going to continue playing for us. If you ask me, I don’t want to lose him, definitely don’t. But every time the market opens, you never know what is going to happen."

"Antoine, for me, has been performing very well. He has consistently been very good since the beginning. Even when not scoring, he is still valuable for us. At the end, we don’t just demand numbers. It is no secret he is a massive player for us.

"Yes, he is performing amazingly well. But lots of wingers from other teams are performing amazingly well. In the league, nearly all teams have a difference maker. Especially offensively. I don’t know what is going to happen in the winter market.

"When you sign a contract, I understand both parties are happy when you sign it. But as a coach, I can only tell you I hope we don’t lose him, because he is very important for us. But I don’t know what is going to happen."
