Bournemouth and Chelsea waiting to swoop for defender – Club giving up hope of renewal

Lazio have been stuck in a financial struggle throughout 2025. This can now hand an advantage to Bournemouth and Chelsea in the hunt for a target.

Il Messaggero today report the Italian club are trying to hand renewals to several players.

While new deals have been offered, they have all but given up hope of keeping Mario Gila. There is pessimism that the Spaniard will agree to renew his tenure in Rome, with Bournemouth and Chelsea mentioned as suitors.

The Premier League clubs are said to be waiting for an opportunity, with Gila’s contract running out in 2027. Inter Milan are also interested in the centre-back, who has also played in midfield this season.

Lazio would much rather sell the player and get his wages off their books. They will also earn a capital profit, having signed him from Real Madrid in 2022 for €6m.

Bournemouth and Chelsea can land the defender for a cut-price fee now, taking advantage of Lazio’s situation.

The Cherries can lose Marcos Senesi soon, with the Blues already trying to find a new club for Axel Disasi. Both clubs can have a spot for a centre-back in the side and Gila can prove to be a good opportunity.
