The Carabao Cup has provided fans with some of the most memorable moments in English football this season. For Newcastle United supporters, one match in particular still resonates. Historic cup victories are rare, and the celebrations that follow are unforgettable. In a competition known for its intensity and unpredictability, every goal counts and every moment can define a club’s season. Liverpool fans are no strangers to seeing players rise and leave a mark in other clubs’ campaigns. The focus often turns to the players who deliver in key moments, those who make history for the clubs they represent. For managers and staff, these moments are a combination of preparation, skill, and timing. Eddie Howe, Newcastle’s manager, has spent years navigating the highs and lows of football, and he understands the impact of such moments both on the club and on individual players’ legacies. Reflecting on Newcastle’s historic cup success, Howe spoke about Alexander Isak’s contribution, focusing on his quality and the significance of the moment, with the discussion coming just days after Isak was forced off injured against Tottenham Hotspur following his opening goal for Liverpool.“I’d probably just look at that individually in the moment, and the moment is a really special one for the football club and Alex played his part in the season,” Howe said to Sky Sports. “You look at him as a footballer and he’s an incredible footballer, he can do things that I’ve not seen many others do. And I think the thing I love about that goal for him is just how deadly it was.”

Howe also reflected on the emotional impact of the win, emphasizing the significance for staff and supporters who have long been associated with the club. “It was an emotional moment for everybody. A lot of the staff have been associated with the club for so many years, and it’s such an unusual club in that respect. You’ve got people who have been there 30, 40 years and the supporters have been such a long way. You couldn’t help not being emotional in that moment. It’s the moment everyone’s dreamed of and we finally got there.” He praised the Newcastle fanbase for their unique outlook, saying, “Geordie’s have a unique outlook on life and it’s one that I would recommend to anybody. Positive, even in difficult moments, and always believing that there’s something better around the corner.” Howe explained why he chose to join Newcastle and how that connection shaped his approach: “The decision to come here for me was the right one on day one and I don’t say that just to sound good. When you come to a new city, a new club, you get a feeling. The feeling hits you, whether it’s on day one or a few days.”

Concluding on future ambitions, Howe added, “Now it’s about the future. It’s about what else we can achieve and I’d certainly like to be looking at more of these cup wins in the future.” From a Liverpool perspective, it’s clear that while Isak’s move has caused mixed emotions, his mark on Newcastle’s history cannot be denied.
