Bucks eye scoring boost as another member of the Kings emerge in trade talks

The Milwaukee Bucks are exploring trade options, and one analyst believes Malik Monk should be on their radar. According to The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie, Monk, a 27-year-old shooting guard currently with the Sacramento Kings, could be a strong fit for the Bucks as well as the Clippers, Magic, Timberwolves, and Mavericks.

Monk has been mentioned in recent trade chatter, particularly as his role in Sacramento’s rotation has diminished. After averaging a career-high 31.6 minutes per game last season, he is now seeing just 22.8 minutes. A new environment could revitalize his game, and the Kings appear willing to accommodate a move as they work to restructure their roster.

The Kings back-up could provide a significant boost for the Milwaukee Bucks. A dynamic shot creator and former Sixth Man of the Year candidate, he offers instant scoring off the bench. Even in a down season, averaging 12.4 points and 2.3 assists, his lowest since 2020–21, he remains capable of contributing effectively in a reserve role, making him an appealing trade target for any team seeking depth and offense.

The Bucks need all the help they could get

The Bucks need every bit of scoring they can get while covering for Giannis Antetokounmpo’s absence with a calf strain. Even after Giannis returns, adding another playmaker could relieve some of the pressure on him. Though Monk’s three-point shooting can be inconsistent, he could still contribute alongside the Greek Freak, and the duo could be made to click.

The bigger issue with Monk is his defense. He does not provide the impact Milwaukee needs on that end. The Bucks are currently seeking a bigger wing, and the 6-foot-3 Monk does not fill that role. Adding to the challenge, acquiring Monk’s $18.8 million salary would force the Bucks to move either Kyle Kuzma or Bobby Portis, further reducing the team’s size.

Monk is not the only King who has been linked to the Bucks recently, as Zach LaVine has also emerged in trade discussions.
