Liverpool have been linked with a number of centre-backs ahead of the January transfer window.
It has been reported that Nico Schlotterbeck will not sign a new contract with Borussia Dortmund.
As a result, the German is set to become a free agent this coming summer and foreign clubs, Liverpool included, will be able to sign the stopper to a pre-contract agreement from January 1.

Schlotterbeck isn’t the only centre-back to have been looked at by those in a position of power at Anfield, however.
Marc Guehi is linked to Liverpool as well, but recent reports suggest that a summer move for the Crystal Palace defender is the most likely outcome.

Liverpool centre-back wanted
While Liverpool could sign a new defender this winter, one of their current centre-back options has interest from Italy.
It is reported in Calciomercato that AC Milan, after speaking to the player this past summer, are now looking at Joe Gomez.
Elsewhere, Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation is yet to be resolved, and at present, he is due to become a free agent at the same time as Guehi.
Losing one or both of Gomez and Konate would leave Virgil van Dijk as the only experienced centre-back at Anfield unless fresh legs are brought in.
