Arsenal are aiming to finally win the Premier League title this season under the guidance of Mikel Arteta

Arsenal beat Crystal Palace on penalties in their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash on Tuesday night. They drew 1-1 with the Eagles after normal time at the Emirates Stadium. Mikel Arteta’s side are back in action in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon at home to Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Gunners won 1-0 away at Everton last time out in the league. Striker Viktor Gyokeres got their goal from the penalty spot at the Hill Dickinson Stadium against the Toffees. The London outfit remain top of the table ahead of Manchester City and Aston Villa after 17 fixtures.

Arsenal admirers of AC Milan defender Davide Bartesaghi

Arsenal are on ‘alert’ for AC Milan defender Davide Bartesaghi ahead of the January transfer window, according to Italian news outlet Gazetta Dello Sport. They are said to be interested in luring the full-back to England this winter. His contract at the San Siro expires in 2030 meaning the Serie A giants are under no pressure to sell him just yet and they can wait for the right offer to come in for his signature next month.

Bartesaghi, 19, started out at Atalanta before switching to his current club 12 years ago. He has since risen up through their academy ranks and was a regular for them at various different youth levels growing up. The teenager first started training with the first-team back in 2023.

He was then handed his senior debut by the Italian club in September of the same year in a league win over Hellas Verona. The prospect subsequently penned his first professional contract shortly after. The Italy youth international has since become a valuable player and has played 28 matches to date, 13 of which have come this season, and he has chipped in with two goals from defence.

Would Davide Bartesaghi suit Arsenal?

Arsenal could see Bartesaghi as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. He is young and has potential to grow and develop down the line.

He would be a shrewd long-term addition for the Gunners and someone who they can develop over the coming years. The Erba-born man would battle it out with the likes of Riccardo Calafiori and Myles Lewis-Skelly for a place in Arteta’s starting XI. He is a left-back who likes to get up and down the flank of defence and get involved in attacks when needed.

Former AC Milan player Filippo Galli has recently hailed Bartesaghi and said: “We must credit this young man for his growth path, and those who guided him. He has maintained steady progress, which is rare. He strikes me as a very consistent player, and that is not negative. He delivers outstanding performances and could even become a left-sided centre-back. We must acknowledge this lad’s development, one of the key qualities for nurturing such talent.”

Arsenal’s upcoming opponents Brighton are sat in 9th in the league. They are only five points off the top four. The Seagulls drew 0-0 with Sunderland in their last outing.
