A look at who is likely to leave Chelsea this January and who is likely to stay of those who have been linked with an exit.

Chelsea have had a mixed season so far, looking good to challenge for a top four spot for the second successive season, but they don’t look as though they will be any closer to challenging the top two.

We do have plenty of football still to play this season, though, and the January transfer window could be crucial to deciding what happens in the second half of the campaign. Here we look at who could leave Chelsea this January and who is unlikely to depart.

The wont’s leaves

Filip Jorgensen

Jorgensen has been linked with an exit in recent weeks, with reports in Türkiye claiming that Besiktas are eyeing a move for Chelsea’s back-up goalkeeper. Jorgensen has struggled for regular outings at Stamford Bridge, largely serving as an out-and-out back-up with no clear view of the number one spot, currently occupied by Robert Sanchez.

But at 23 years of age, he is still young, especially for a goalkeeper, and he was likely never expecting to be a starter in the near term. Expect Chelsea to keep hold of Jorgensen, at least until the summer when they will likely reassess their goalkeeping options and pecking order. Jorgensen has just five appearances so far this season.

Chelsea loaned out Guiu in the summer only to recall him, and their striker options have not improved. Liam Delap continues to deal with injuries, and the Blues can’t afford to leave themselves short by allowing Guiu to leave. A striker signing may not be out of the question, but expect Chelsea to stay on the side of caution in any case.

Mykhailo Mudryk

There have been reports that Mudryk could be cleared to play in January - at least for now - and that Sevilla are showing interest in a loan. But it feels like a pipe dream for Chelsea that is unlikely to come true. The Blues will likely be stuck with Mudryk until his suspension situation is resolves, and the winger’s fresh driving ban won’t help attract clubs to taking a chance on him, even if he is cleared to play.

The could leaves

Axel Disasi

The bomb squad members are the obvious candidates to leave Chelsea this January, and they will surely take whatever they can get to get out and play some football for at least six months. Permanent deals are not out of the question, but loan deals are perhaps more likely at this time of year.

Disasi has been linked with plenty of clubs home and abroad, and it’s likely he will find a spot somewhere before the winter window comes and goes.

Raheem Sterling

Sterling is also in that situation having been training with the kids - so to speak - after failing to land a move away from the club in the summer. Sterling needs to find football elsewhere, and a loan deal is again likely unless Chelsea are willing to take a big hit on their asking price and Sterling is willing to take a very big pay cut.

Tyrique George

Tyrique George was heavily linked with a move on deadline day of the summer window, with Fulham attempting to wrap up a deal, but it never came to pass.

George is liked by Chelsea, still only 19 years of age, but having only made 11 appearances across all competitions, he may be better served getting out on loan and continuing his development with regular football. If we are looking at the Chelsea players most likely to get a loan move this January, George is high on that list.
