Chelsea’s most disappointing player of 2025 could become a heartbreaking story in 2026

A very successful season for Chelsea makes picking the most disappointing player of the year difficult to choose.

Enzo Maresca’s side won two trophies in 2025, and are likely to finish the year in the top four and the EFL Cup semi-finals.

The award for Chelsea’s best player is far easier to give out, with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer and Reece James receiving plenty of praise for their performances.

The latter’s return to fitness has been one of the biggest keys for the Blues in 2025, however the same cannot be said for Romeo Lavia.

Romeo Lavia is Chelsea’s most disappointing player of 2025

Frequent injury issues have still left the Belgian without a complete 90 minute appearance since he joined the club.

He has been out now since the start of November, and has in total missed close to 250 days of action in 2025.

Chelsea could still sign a new attacker after cooling their interest in Antoine Semenyo. Who would you target, or are you content with Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens?

The most annoying part of things is that there is an argument that Lavia is in the starting side when he is fit, and some of Chelsea’s best performances of the year have involved him.

The Belgian was praised for his performance against Liverpool in a crucial game towards the end of last season, where three points were vital in their push for Champions League football.

They achieved this goal, but Lavia has featured in just two European games this season, with one of those appearances lasting just eight minutes.

Some Chelsea fans have started to lose faith in Lavia, and reports that the Blues are interested in signing a new midfielder could see the end coming for him at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea interested in new midfielder in 2026

Reports have stated that Chelsea are keen on signing another midfielder in 2026, with them being unable to rely on Lavia for long periods of time.

Elliot Anderson has caught the attention of Chelsea scouts following his excellent recent form at Nottingham Forest.

Adam Wharton is also being targeted, and the Blues were keen on signing him before Lavia had even arrived at the club.

It is clear that everyone wants things to work out for the former Southampton midfielder in West London, but more injury problems could see them have to give up on his future at the club.
