The January transfer window is set to swing open on the turn of the year, as clubs look to strengthen their side for the latter half of the season. In England, talk of potential moves hasn't stopped since the summer window came to a close on September 1, with a number of teams looking to pick up where they left off, despite a collective spend of around £3billion.

Liverpool were the biggest spenders over the summer, splashing £415million on the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak. They were tailed by Chelsea, who flaunted £285million and Arsenal, who committed to spending £255million on the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and Martin Zubimendi.

With so much spent over the summer, it remains to be seen as to whether clubs will be so active when window re-opens at the turn of the year. But if they are, **Mirror Football** has compiled a list of one player each team should certainly take a look at...

Arsenal took a commanding lead atop the Premier League table earlier this season though have seen the points gap cut down to two at Christmas. They've been dealt numerous defensive injuries to William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera at different points this season. Defensive frailties will be the only thing standing in their way of the title, therefore a new defender - Giorgio Scalvini, one of Italy's brightest talents - would fit perfectly.

The ongoing argument is whether Man City have become too "Haaland-dependant" or "predictable", as the prolific Norwegian has scored 25 of their 76 goals in all competitions so far - roughly a third of the total. They look set to sign Antoine Semenyo, who is reportedly available for the total of a £65m release clause and would freshen up Pep Guardiola's attacking options.

Villa are reportedly ahead of their rivals in already securing perhaps their most-needed transfer for winter. With Evann Guessand a late call-up to Ivory Coast's AFCON squad, teenage Brazilian winger Alyson Edward is apparently set to join for £10.5m from Gremio.

Chelsea were reportedly looking at the possibility of signing Mike Maignan from AC Milan this summer, only to be put off by Il Rossoneri's price tag of around £21m. However, with the Frenchman's contract expiring at the end of the season, the Blues may opt to revisit the deal with hopes of agreeing a cheaper fee.
