Opinion: Chelsea's three best games of 2025 were unforgettable, the Blues have to keep hold of Enzo Maresca

There are doubts surrounding Enzo Maresca’s long-term future at Chelsea following some very interesting comments made earlier this month.

After Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Everton, Maresca described the 48 hours prior to that victory as the “worst” that he had experienced since joining the club, claiming that he had not been supported.

Chelsea reportedly have a shortlist of managers who could replace the 45-year-old in the event that he does depart Stamford Bridge.

Imagine Enzo Maresca has just been sacked. Who should Chelsea hire to replace him?

However, the Blues should be doing everything they can to keep hold of him, and three of their performances in 2025 show why. Here are Chelsea’s best three games of 2025, ranked in order by The Chelsea Chronicle.

3. Chelsea 3-1 Liverpool

Chelsea have beaten Liverpool twice this year, with their most recent victory coming in October.

They played well that day, but their performance against Arne Slot’s side towards the end of the 2024/25 season was even better.

Liverpool had just won the Premier League title but were beaten 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. It took Enzo Fernandez just three minutes to put the ball into Alisson’s net after some terrific play. It was a complete display by Maresca’s men.

2. Chelsea 3-0 Barcelona

Chelsea’s Champions League campaign this season has been a really mixed one. The Blues have drawn with Qarabag and lost to Atalanta, yet they have managed to beat Barcelona.

An own goal from Jules Kounde and strikes from Estevao Willian and Liam Delap saw Chelsea defeat Barcelona 3-0.

They were helped by a red card, but in the end, Chelsea still managed to take down one of the world’s top clubs with relative ease.

Honourable mention: Real Betis 1-4 Chelsea

The only reason Chelsea’s win against Real Betis in the 2025 Conference League final is not being included in this top three is because of how poorly Maresca’s men played in the first half.

Given that their triumph over Betis saw them win a European trophy, the game has to be mentioned. But overall, they put in better performances against Barcelona, Liverpool and, of course, Paris Saint-Germain.

1. Chelsea 3-0 PSG

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over PSG in the Club World Cup final takes top spot. At the time, PSG were widely considered as the best team in the world after winning the Champions League.

However, that did not stop Cole Palmer from tearing them apart as Maresca delivered a masterclass from the dugout, outsmarting his opponent Luis Enrique.

Do you think Chelsea can win the Premier League with Enzo Maresca? 👀

If not, who can bring the title back to Stamford Bridge?

A manager like Andoni Iraola could be a good replacement for Maresca, but when you look at some of the victories that the former Leicester City boss has led Chelsea to during his time in west London, losing him would be such a huge blow and setback for the club.
