Antoine Semenyo, Marc Guehi and Ruben Neves are all linked with Premier League transfers ahead of the January window opening

The January transfer window is almost here and a number of clubs across the Premier League will be looking to bolster their respective squads for the latter half of the season - but who should each team sign?

The January transfer window is set to swing open on the turn of the year, as clubs look to strengthen their side for the latter half of the season. In England, talk of potential moves hasn't stopped since the summer window came to a close on September 1, with a number of teams looking to pick up where they left off, despite a collective spend of around £3billion.

Liverpool were the biggest spenders over the summer, splashing £415million on the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike and Alexander Isak. They were tailed by Chelsea, who flaunted £285million and Arsenal, who committed to spending £255million on the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke and Martin Zubimendi.

With so much spent over the summer, it remains to be seen as to whether clubs will be so active when window re-opens at the turn of the year. But if they are, Mirror Football has compiled a list of one player each team should certainly take a look at...

Arsenal

Arsenal took a commanding lead atop the Premier League table earlier this season though have seen the points gap cut down to two at Christmas. They've been dealt numerous defensive injuries to William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White, Jurrien Timber, Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera at different points this season. Defensive frailties will be the only thing standing in their way of the title, therefore a new defender - Giorgio Scalvini, one of Italy's brightest talents - would fit perfectly.

Sunderland

Sunderland chased Sassuolo forward Armand Lauriente for the majority of the summer, only for a deal to fall through. It will be interesting to see if the Black Cats reignite their interest in January, considering they could use further additions on the wing and up top. ( Image: Getty Images)

Brighton

Brighton should be on the lookout for a striker in the January transfer window as they will now be without Stefano Tzimas until next season due to an ACL injury, plus Danny Welbeck's own injury record at 35 doesn't exactly inspire confidence he can lead the line throughout a campaign. The club were interested in Gonzalo Garcia this summer, but the Real Madrid sensation could be a longshot all things considered. ( Image: PA)

Everton

Problems in defensive midfield could spiral out of control if Everton are not careful. Idrissa Gueye has already missed three matches through a bizarre red card suspension, now he has jetted off to AFCON and left David Moyes light on options. The banks of the River Mersey would be the perfect place for Kalvin Phillips to jump start his career, just as his former Man City teammate Jack Grealish has done. Fulham

With Fulham flourishing in attack at present, the club would be wise to tighten up at the back considering they have shipped 26 goals this season thus far. FC Midtjylland's Ousmane Diao is one centre-half said to be on the club's radar, and he could be available on the cheap. ( Image: UEFA via Getty Images)

Nottingham Forest

A number of Premier League clubs, including Nottingham Forest, are reportedly interested in snapping up Inter Milan stalwart Stefan de Vrij. The centre-back would be a worthy acquisition for Forest given his wealth of experience at the highest level. ( Image: Inter via Getty Images)
