Tottenham warned against signing €65m Man City star struggling for starts under Guardiola

Tottenham have been linked with a shock move for a Manchester City forward.

It has been widely reported since Tuesday that Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo prefers a move to Manchester City in January. It remains to be seen which winger the Lilywhites now aim to sign after seemingly missing out on prime target Semenyo, though nothing formal has been agreed with Manchester City.

The left wing has been an area of concern this season. Son Heung-min’s abrupt departure to MLS club Los Angeles FC in the summer has left Tottenham devoid of invention and flair from the left flank, with none of Wilson Odobert, Brennan Johnson or Randal Kolo Muani managing to make that position their own.

The Lilywhites have several alternatives lined up for Semenyo. Ajax starlet Mika Godts has emerged as a possible target for Tottenham, having impressed in the Eredivisie. They have also been linked with a shock January swoop for Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush.

Ex-Spurs scout Bryan King warns the Lilywhites against signing Omar Marmoush

Omar Marmoush has struggled for regular game time at Man City this season, bagging just one goal and an assist in 15 games across all competitions. He has endured a stop-start campaign due to a knee injury, while finding himself behind Erling Haaland in the pecking order.

Currently away for the AFCON duty, the Egyptian star has fallen on the radar of Tottenham. However, former scout Bryan King has warned the Spurs hierarchy against signing Marmoush after missing out on Eberechi Eze to Arsenal in the summer.

“He does nothing for me. I can’t see him being Tottenham’s answer,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News.

“They’ve got a lot of good players, but none of them seem to be performing.

“You’ve already got players on absolute fortunes at Tottenham already.

“They missed the chance to sign good players in the summer, and now they’re scrambling around for players like Marmoush. They had a chance with Eze, Toney, Mbeumo, all these players went by the board.

“They bring in these loan players, and you aren’t going to get loyalty from them unless they sign them. He’ll play at Tottenham and then be back where he started anyway.”

Tottenham must avoid signing Marmoush

Marmoush arrived at City from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025 and performed well, most notably scoring a hat-trick against Newcastle United. This season, though, he has struggled to perform thanks to a combination of injury and stiff competition.

There has been no specific position for the Egypt international at the Etihad Stadium, even though he can operate as a No.10 or 9. Frank needs a dynamic, creative left-winger who can make the spot his own, and Marmoush, unfortunately, does not fit that bill. Hence, it would be wise for our board to avoid making advances to sign him.
