How much Liverpool have spent in the last three January windows as fans pray for concerning trend to end

With the transfer window open very soon, Liverpool will be keeping one eye on any potential market opportunities.

Although the Reds have experienced a small upturn in form over recent weeks, their title defence has not gone to plan at all and they look very unlikely to retain it.

However, Liverpool still have a slim chance, but also have a few other chances of silverware, meaning that dipping into the transfer market might be essential.

If they are to do that, though, they will need to change a worrying trend that has occurred over the last three winter windows, which is quite eye-opening as to how little they have spent.

January 2025 = £0

At the start of this year, Liverpool were firmly in a title race, with the Reds sitting pretty at the top of the tree.

This meant that they did not feel the need to make any signings during this time, even if fans thought otherwise.

Liverpool did not even sell many players either, with only Marcelo Pitaluga and Tom Hill leaving on permanent transfers, making it a very quiet January indeed.

January 2024 = £0

There is a pattern forming here, isn’t there? Yet again, Liverpool spent nothing in the January window in 2024, with this one more a surprise.

The Reds were very much in a title race again at the time, although things were a lot tighter at the top, suggesting that adding to the team would have been a good idea.

They opted against this, though, with the only activity being loaning out many young stars, while Paul Glatzel was the only permanent outgoing.

Liverpool actually did spend some money in the January of 2023, although it was all spent on one player so there was not exactly a flurry of incomings.

They spent £35m during this window, with all of it going on Cody Gakpo from PSV, a signing that has very much paid off for them.

He has since played almost 150 games for the Reds, scoring 46 and assisting 21, highlighting how he has been a success.

He may not be every fan’s favourite, but for that price, he has certainly been worth it, with there still being plenty more he can give at just 26.
