There was once a disagreement between current Milwaukee Bucks head coach Doc Rivers and Kevin Garnett over returning to the Minnesota Timberwolves, but that has since been resolved. Garnett is now returning to the team in a broad, advisory role under new ownership, generating major excitement among fans. He will also have his jersey retired, reflecting the repaired relationship between the player and the franchise.
Under former owner Glen Taylor, the relationship between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Kevin Garnett was reportedly fractured, with longstanding grievances between the legendary player and the franchise. Doc Rivers even told The Athletic that he and Garnett “were getting into it” as he tried to mediate and repair the relationship, but the star forward remained firm.
“There was a stretch where we really were getting into it about it because I wanted him to come back here and accept it,” remarked the Bucks head coach. “If you know Kevin, he is … a principled man. And I got it. I understood it.”

Now that those issues are behind them, Garnett is set to take on a multifaceted role with the Timberwolves, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Rivers, for his part, said he is “happy” about the development and the renewed partnership.
“When I saw A-Rod, the first thing I said was congratulations (for winning the battle for the Timberwolves and Lynx) and retire Kevin’s jersey. Figure out a way of doing that,” Rivers added.

“I’m so happy about it. He deserves to be here. When you think Minnesota basketball, that has to be the first name, right?”
Garnett’s return and the retirement of his jersey mark a full-circle moment for both the player and the Timberwolves. What was once a tense relationship has been repaired, thanks in part to Doc Rivers’ efforts to mediate and support the reconciliation. Fans can now celebrate a franchise legend while looking forward to Garnett’s continued impact on the team’s future.
