One stat after Arsenal’s Crystal Palace win has gone under the radar

This Arsenal side is something else.

Before this season, it felt like if Arsenal were not playing really good football, they would probably draw or lose the game. Not always, but it did at times.

This season, Arsenal have been winning most of their games - having only lost two so far - despite not performing at their best.

Their win over Crystal Palace was much better than their win over Wolves, though, because it was against a tougher team in a very tricky competition that no one should take lightly. It was also in the quarter-finals of the competition, which made things more important and competitive.

However, Arsenal still won. They stood out, yet again, and beat Palace at a really, really good penalty shootout to book their tickets to the Carabao Cup's semi-final.

Arsenal have some of the best penalty-takers in world football at the moment, and even the ones that do not take them as many times as others, really show up when it matters most.

One stat after Arsenal’s Crystal Palace win has gone under the radar

To put it into context, after Arsenal's win over Palace, one really interesting stat was published on social media, and it is much, much more important than what fans have made it out to be.

After the penalty shootout on Tuesday, Arsenal had converted 47 of their last 51 spot kicks in any shootout. That is genuinely impressive.

It was obvious to see just how important being good in penalty shootouts actually is against Palace, and it may prove to be even more valuable in the competition, as the semi-final and the final could also be decided in this format.

It is not just that: Arsenal are really, really motivated to win it all this season. That all does not end with the Premier League. They obviously have high aspirations and goals.

Those goals would include the FA Cup, which could also be decided by penalty shootouts if need be. The same - and probably even more important to Arsenal - would be the Champions League, a competition which they have never won before.

These records matter. It does not mean that these results would guarantee a win for Arsenal, but it shows that the coaching staff works on this with the players so that if a situation arises where they have to dispatch penalties, the players are well-equipped for exactly that.

It remains to be seen what happens in the future, but this is a really, really good record so far.
