The European transfer market never sleeps, and rumors linking players to Premier League clubs surface almost daily. Fans often hear whispers of potential deals that could reshape squads. Amid these constant speculations, it’s easy to get carried away, especially when top clubs like Liverpool are involved. Transfer links can excite supporters, but for players, the focus often remains on performing for their current teams. This week, one promising young attacker found himself at the center of such speculation. Questions over his potential move to Liverpool had been circulating across media outlets in Europe and South America. Yet, while rumors swirled, the player remained focused on his current season in Belgium.
Nilson Angulo, the 22-year-old Ecuadorian forward at Anderlecht, spoke candidly in an interview with Gazet van Antwerpen about the reported interest. Having joined Anderlecht from LDU Quito in 2022, Angulo initially played with the reserves before earning senior team appearances. Over 89 matches, he has scored eight goals and provided 11 assists, with five goals and eight assists coming this season alone. When asked directly about Liverpool, Angulo was clear and measured. “I have been made aware of articles about Celta Vigo and Liverpool. As long as my agent doesn’t say anything, I know it’s not true. I am 100% focused on Anderlecht. I want to give this club something back for all the patience they’ve had with me,” he explained.
The player also discussed his ambitions for the World Cup next summer. “Of course, I’m looking forward to the World Cup. There could be 150,000 Ecuadorian supporters there, and who knows, we might even play against Belgium later in the tournament. That would be great. Ecuador has a good team, and I’ve played some good international matches,” Angulo added. Earlier this year, Angulo extended his contract with Anderlecht until 2029, emphasizing his commitment to the club despite external interest. For Liverpool fans, the news clarifies that while Angulo’s name has been linked to Anfield, the forward remains focused on contributing to Anderlecht’s campaign and preparing for international duty.
