Report: Chelsea’s stance on forgotten £17.1m star revealed ahead of January window

Chelsea are exploring domestic options for Deivid Washington ahead of the January transfer window according to The Athletic.

The Blues signed Washington from Santos in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth £14m with a further £3.5m in add-ons.

Washington was recalled from his loan at Santos in September, and has made just three appearances for Chelsea, whilst he hasn’t played a senior game since returning.

Chelsea are expected to be quiet in January with departures likely to be the main focus, with a few players needing to be move on.

Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling fall into that category, whilst the same can also be said of Washington, although Chelsea have no international loans available.

Washington has made just three appearances for Chelsea.

However, The Athletic have reported the Blues are exploring domestic options for Washington ahead of the January window.

Washington has mainly featured for Chelsea’s development side during his time at the club, and has made six appearances this season, but is yet to score.

The striker is one of a number of signings from South America, but it’s safe to say this one hasn’t worked out, and Chelsea will have their work cut out to get a decent transfer fee for the Brazilian youngster.

Whilst the Blues are trying to offload Washington they are reportedly monitoring another young striker in DjylianN’Guessan.

Chelsea have reportedly had an €8m offer forN’Guessan rejected, and the 17-year-old currently plays in Ligue 2 for Saint Etienne.

The France under-20 international is very much a potential star of the future, but whether Chelsea look to advance their interest in the teenager remains to be seen, and at his age he needs to be playing as regularly as possible to help continue his development and transition to senior football.
