The January transfer window is still some time away, but European football is already full of viral rumours. From angry star players hinting at exits to clubs planning surprise loan moves, the rumours are all over the place.
The biggest and most dramatic story at the moment involves [Mohamed Salah](https://www.firstpost.com/sports/football-news/africa-cup-of-nations-2025-afcon-premier-league-stars-salah-mbeumo-13961615.html) and Liverpool. The Egyptian star has openly spoken about his frustration after being left out of the starting lineup for three matches in a row.
Salah said he feels he has been “thrown under the bus” and made a scapegoat for Liverpool’s poor start to the season. For a player who has been one of the club’s greatest performers in recent years, his comments have shocked many fans.
Considering he signed a contract extension recently and has been a club legend, the idea of Salah leaving mid-season feels unreal and has quickly become one of the most bizarre rumours in Europe.
“I can’t believe … I’m sitting on the bench for 90 minutes. The third time on the bench, I think for the first time in my career. I’m very, very disappointed. I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season. Now I’m sitting on the bench and I don’t know why,” Salah said earlier this month.
“It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame. I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don’t have any relationship,” he added.

Another surprising report comes from Italy, where Roma are said to be preparing a proposal to sign Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee. Roma reportedly want him on loan with an option to buy. Zirkzee joined United in 2024 for a big fee. Meanwhile, reports also suggest United are not looking to sell him.
At Manchester City, there is talk that young winger Oscar Bobb could leave in January if the club sign Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo. According to Fabrizio Romano, Borussia Dortmund are said to be interested in Bobb, who is still just 22 and has featured regularly this season.
Sunderland are also part of the rumour list, with manager Regis Le Bris admitting that left-back Arthur Masuaku could leave in January. Masuaku has struggled for game time this season. “He’s still important for us. We had a conversation just before the AFCON and we agreed that in this transfer window we’ll have an opportunity to discuss \[his future\]. But it doesn’t mean he will leave, we still have to be aligned,” Le Bris said.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has tried to shut down rumours linking his club with Antoine Semenyo. Despite reports of interest, Maresca said he is “in love” with his current squad and does not feel the need to sign anyone in January.
