Chelsea's pursuit of £52m man could damage Leeds United's January transfer plans - Report

Chelsea could deal a significant blow to Leeds United’s January transfer plans as Daniel Farke looks to add depth to his squad.

All of the talk at the end of the summer transfer window was that Daniel Farke was short on attacking options as he looked to steer Leeds to Premier League safety.

However, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the best form of his career, and Leeds now playing in a 3-5-2 formation, Farke’s attentions may be turning elsewhere.

Leeds have been linked with a move for RB Leipzig’s El Chadaille Bitshiabu in recent days, with the towering defender struggling to force his way into the team in Germany.

However, now it appears that Chelsea could hold the key to Leeds’ transfer hopes as they plan their own raid on Leipzig.

Who do you want Leeds to sign in January? A striker surely has to be the priority!

Chelsea could hold the key to Leeds United’s El Chadaille Bitshiabu move

According to a report from TeamTalk, Chelsea are lining up a move for Bitshiabu’s Leipzig team-mate, Castello Lukeba.

The report states that Leipzig are willing to listen to offers of around £52 million for Lukeba, and the Blues could face competition from the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool for the classy defender.

However, this could be bad news for Leeds’ hopes of signing Bitshiabu, according to German publication Bild.

Bild report that Leipzig consider the powerful defender to be a star of the future, and if Lukeba is allowed to leave in the transfer window, Bitshiabu would be the man to replace him in their starting line-up.

As a result, Leeds will be hoping that their Premier League rivals are unable to strike a deal for the former Paris Saint-Germain prospect, as they look to strengthen their own back line in January.

49ers cannot afford to neglect Leeds United’s attack

With Sebastiaan Bornauw linked with a move to FC Koln in the January window, Leeds may be forced to dip into the market for another option in defence.

However, Leeds cannot afford to rest on their laurels in attack, despite Calvert-Lewin’s record-breaking recent form.

The persistent injury that has ruled Lukas Nmecha out of action shows just how fragile Leeds’ recovery could be.

If Calvert-Lewin were to suffer a similar fate, Farke would have no one to lead the line. While the temptation to sign a talented defender is obvious, the 49ers still need to bolster the Leeds attack as a priority.
