It’s the transfer window that could prove the difference between relegation to the Championship and Premier League survival for Rob Edwards’ side

Wolves lost almost 40% of their Premier League goal contributions from 2024/25 in the space of just a week though the departures of Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri, while the transfer hasn’t really worked out for anyone as both players are struggling to recreate their best form in Manchester.

Meanwhile in the absence of his best providers, Jorgen Strand Larsen has had a campaign to forget so far, notching only three goals in all competitions at a strike rate that 91% worse than last season, compared to his 14 pivotal strikes in 2024/25.

So Wolves desperately need both creativity and goals in January and to get a sneak peak of whether they will get them, we fired up Football Manager 26 and simulated our save through to the end of the transfer window to see if it predicts they will do enough for Premier League survival.

Who could Wolves sign in the January transfer window?

Tyrique George - loan from Chelsea - signing George on loan feels like a no-brainer if Wolves can persuade Chelsea to part with the teenager. He was set to go to Fulham on deadline day until The Cottagers opted to keep Harry Wilson instead of replacing the Welshman - who was the subject of interest from Leeds United - with George in a £22 million deal.

However, since he’s made only two starts for The Blues this campaign, he’s surely on the market once again in January and having averaged a goal contribution every three halves of football in the Premier League, FA Cup, Conference League and Club World Cup last season, he could be the spark Wolves need in the final third.

Yannick Gerhardt - £3.1 million from Wolfsburg - The 31-year-old has struggled for game time so far this season but if Wolves can return him to his best form, that price tag could be a bargain for the German international.

Vitezslav Jaros - loan from Liverpool - Having split premium starts with Remko Pasveer in goal on loan at Ajax this campaign, getting guaranteed game time in the Premier League may be a more attractive deal for Jaros and parent club Liverpool.

Who could Wolves sell in January?

Hugo Bueno - £12.5m to West Ham United - Bueno has been one of Wolves’ best players this campaign, so sending him to the London Stadium would smack of waving the white flag. Especially given Wolves’ depth at wing-back behind the Spaniard is questionable at best.

Santiago Bueno - loan to Middlesbrough - The second Bueno out the exit door - like his namesake, Santiago has been far from Wolves’ biggest problem this campaign so letting him go when the club could still fight for survival would be a hammer-blow to Wolves fans. In addition FM26 predicted a handful of other loans: Wesley Okoduwa to Wigan Athletic, Luke Rawlings to Leyton Orient, Mateus Mane to Acedemico de Viseu, Dani Angel to Rayo Majadahonda.
