Liverpool are preparing to face Wolves for the first time this season

Liverpool and Wolves are preparing to meet for the first time since the death of Diogo Jota in what will be an emotional encounter for both clubs.

The Reds will host Wolves, who they signed Jota from in 2020, and remember their former striker. To honour the occasion and in memory of Jota and his brother Andre Silva, Jota’s sons Dinis and Duarte will join the match-day mascots.

The brothers tragically lost their lives on July 3rd in a car accident. Since Jota’s passing, both Liverpool and Wolves have paid stunning tributes to their much-loved former player. This weekend is expected to be another emotional occasion, as the loss of the Portuguese star is still very much felt.

Ahead of the match, Arne Slot said of Jota’s family: “It is not my place to tell them where they should look for comfort – if that is even possible – but I can only hope that the feeling of love and affection that Diogo still generates brings them some solace.”

Liverpool will be looking to make it three wins in a row to continue their chase down of Manchester City and Arsenal. Meanwhile, Wolves are in desperate need of points on the board, as they remain bottom of the table without their first win of the season.
