All the final injury news surrounding Chelsea and Aston Villa as they prepare to face off in the Premier League.
Chelsea are back in action on Saturday in their first game after Christmas. The Blues still have hold of fourth spot as it stands, but Manchester United made up ground on Boxing Day by beating a Newcastle United side the Blues could only manage to draw with last time out.
Aston Villa come into this one in outstanding form, winning their last 10 games, and their aim will be to remain in the title race over the festive period. Here we round up the confirmed injury news surrounding both teams here following the managerial press conferences.
Ross Barkley - Out
Barkley is out until February with a knee injury.
Evann Vidjannagni Guessand - Out (International)
Guessand is away for the African Cup of Nations.
Tyrone Mings - Out
Emery has said: “Tyrone is still injured, he's getting better, maybe in a few weeks, he's joining us.” Emery also said ahead of this one: “We have the same players,” confirming that there are now fresh returning players.
Pau Torres - Out
Emery has said: “Pau Torres, more or less, the same; one week or two weeks, something like that.”
Harvey Elliot - Fit
Emery has confirmed: “Elliott is sick today; he hasn't trained today or yesterday as well. And another player, normally, if everything's going well, tomorrow he'll be training and will be available for Sunday.”
Jamie Gittens - Fit
Maresca has said: “Jamie was not in the squad [vs Newcastle] because the day before, in the final training session, he had a problem in his shoulder. He is back now though and is okay for Villa.”
Jorrel Hato - Out
Maresca has confirmed: “Hato suffered an injury during the warm-up against Newcastle, at half-time. He is out for tomorrow’s game.”
Liam Delap - Fit
Maresca has confirmed that: “Estevao and Liam Delap are both back.” Delap returns from a shoulder issue.
Estevao Willian - Fit
Maresca has said that Estevao Willian will ‘probably’ be available here, but he was not certain.
Romeo Lavia - Out
Lavia is not expected back from his hamstring issue until early January.
Levi Colwill - Out
Colwill is out for the season with a serious knee injury. It was confirmed back in August: “Levi has today undergone successful surgery [for] an ACL injury. Medical assessments confirmed surgery would be the required course of action. Levi will now begin his recovery and be supported by the medical department at Cobham during his rehab phase.”
Dario Essugo - Out
Essugo is likely to return in January. Maresca has said: “Dario, he was okay, started some sessions with us, but he needs to slow down a little bit and will be out, but we hope nothing important. We hope he will be fine.”
Mykhailo Mudryk - Out (Suspended)
Mudryk is suspended. A club statement in the summer read: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA's Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.” Mudryk is not included in the final count due to the nature of his absence.
