We’re just a few short days away from the opening of the January transfer window. Teams in the Premier League are all jostling for position, but which players are most likely to depart their current clubs?
That’s what we asked ChatGPT today. According to AI, here are the five most likely transfer departures over the course of the transfer window. It’s predicting bad news for fans of Bournemouth, Nottingham Forest and Manchester United – but will its predictions come to fruition?
Antoine Semenyo
Here’s an obvious one – ChatGPT isn’t winning any awards for originality this year, as it has predicted Antoine Semenyo to leave Bournemouth before the January window slams shut.
Interest in the Ghanaian international is very high at the moment, with clubs such as Manchester City and Liverpool firmly in the mix for his signature.
Semenyo will be a big loss if he leaves Dean Court mid-season. He has been their main source of goals and has racked up a few assists – the Cherries will need to replace him as a matter of priority if he departs the club.
Elliot Anderson
Elliot Anderson is one of several central midfielders trying to cement their position in the England team ahead of the summer – a move to one of the division’s biggest clubs could be just what the Nottingham Forest star needs.
ChatGPT believes that Anderson will make the jump to Manchester United in January – although, for some reason, it stated that he currently plays for Napoli (we don’t know either).
United need reinforcements in the centre of midfield – especially so when the injury sustained by capatin Bruno Fernandes is taken into consideration.
Brennan Johnson
This one makes sense – Tottenham Hotspur have recently announced that Brennan Johnson is free to leave the club, having been usurped by Spurs’ new attacking talent.
According to ChatGPT, both Brentford and Crystal Palace are credited with an interest in the player. Both could use some depth in their attacking ranks – as someone who can fulfil multiple forward roles, Johnson seems like the ideal fit.
A lightning-fast winger, the former Nottingham Forest man has blended into the background under Thomas Frank’s regime. As such, a clean break could be just what he needs to get his career back on track.
Joshua Zirkee
Joshua Zirkzee’s time at Manchester United has been largely maligned from the beginning. Initially unwanted by then-manager Erik ten Hag (something he made publicly clear), his fortunes haven’t improved under the stewardship of Ruben Amorim.
A technically gifted forward, Zirkzee’s main strengths come in his ability to hold the ball up and his impressive range of passing. He certainly has something to offer for the right team, which is why ChatGPT thinks a January move could be on the cards.
It has named Roma as one of the Dutch international’s possible destinations – it wouldn’t be the first time a former Manchester United player has found success in Italy.
Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo is among the most coveted players in the Premier League at the moment. Out of favour at Manchester United, it should come as no surprise that ChatGPT thinks a transfer could be on the cards.
The AI software believes that Napoli could make a move for the youngster, but did not mention whether this will be a loan or in a permanent capacity.
Should Mainoo leave the club permanently, it could spark a major uproar within the United fanbase. Ruben Amorim will look to avoid this – as such, we have to disagree with ChatGPT one this one.
