Arsenal host Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon looking to stay at the top of the Premier League table

Mikel Arteta’s side are two points above Manchester City after 17 games while Aston Villa are just one further point back in third. Chelsea in fourth are 10 points behind the Gunners with the teams below third spot effectively out of the title race.

Liverpool and Manchester United also have 29 points with the Red Devils having played a game more at the time of writing after beating Newcastle United 1-0 at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.

With just one Premier League match taking place on Boxing Day, there are seven top-flight games on Saturday with five games kicking off at 3pm. Arsenal are one of the sides in action in a traditional Saturday 3pm slot - although ironically a 3pm Saturday kick off the day after Boxing Day is in itself breaking with tradition with Man United and Newcastle the only top-flight sides in action on December 26 this year.

Is Arsenal v Brighton on TV?

Unfortunately for UK viewers, Arsenal’s game will not be broadcast live in the United Kingdom due to the 3pm blackout rule. That is despite EFL and National League games taking place on Boxing Day.

The blackout rule is designed to ensure attendances lower down the leagues but despite the majority of those games not taking place on Saturday, the rule has not been relaxed this weekend.

The game will be on BBC Radio 5 Live so UK fans can listen live but not watch.

For fans in Ireland, they will also not be able to watch the fixture live. Premier Sports has chosen Liverpool v Wolves as their live 3pm TV offering.

NBC Sports will provide coverage in the USA, while there is also a live streaming option on Peacock. Stan Sport has broadcast rights in Australia, fans in Canada can watch via Fubo Sports, and SuperSport is the place to go for coverage in Africa. The games will be available to watch on TV and through a live stream for respective subscribers.

Highlights will be available to watch after the match on the Sky Sports app and YouTube channel from 5.15pm onwards, and Match of the Day will get underway on BBC Once at 10.25pm.

Arsenal v Brighton team news

For the visitors Stefanos Tzimas has ruptured his ACL and will be out for the season while Adam Webster is also unavailable. Carlos Baleba is currently away for the African Cup of Nations and will not feature.

Brighton’s final definite absence is Solly March, who is looking at a January return. Mats Wieffer is a doubt. Fabian Hurzeler has said: “We have to go day-to-day and follow the procedure we have to follow. But he looks quite positive, quite well, so I think he will also be available.”

Arsenal have five players who are sidelined for the game with Max Dowman, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Magalhaes, Cristhian Mosquera and Ben White all poised to be absent.

Gabriel Martinelli is a doubt ager he picked up an issue against Palace. Arteta said after the Carabao Cup win: “Martinelli is more of a knock and he wasn't comfortable to carry on after the second half.”
