Former NBA head coach slams Luka Doncic's style of play with brutal assessment

Former NBA player and head coach Sam Mitchell strongly criticized Luka Doncic’s off-the-ball play, saying he does nothing to make his teammates better when he doesn’t have the ball.

Former long-time NBA player and head coach Sam Mitchell strongly criticized Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic's style of play on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

Mitchell says Luka can't play without the ball and does nothing to make his teammates better when he doesn't have the ball.

He compared Doncic to Stephen Curry and praised the two-time MVP, explaining why everybody gives so much credit to Steph for what he does on the court—something that Luka isn't doing.

“Luka Doncic cannot play basketball without the ball. He doesn’t cut, he doesn’t move, he doesn’t set screens. He’s great with the ball, but he does nothing to make his teammates better when he doesn’t have it," Mitchell stated.

"The reason we give Steph Curry so much credit is not because he’s a traditional great point guard. He averages about four and a half to five assists per game for his career. Steph Curry does the hard things," he said.

"He’s always cutting and moving without the ball, which—when you’re a great player and you make a hard cut—somebody’s going to follow you.”

Luka Doncic currently leads the league in points per game and is fourth in the league in assists.

He's averaging 33.7 points, 8.7 assists, and 8.5 rebounds in around 36 minutes per contest, while leading the Lakers to a fourth seed so far with a 19-10 record.
