Federico Chiesa could play as a number nine in the coming weeks amid the injury issues, Arne Slot has said.

But will Liverpool strengthen their squad in January? Antoine Semenyo has been linked, but it remains to be seen which club he will join in January when his release clause becomes active.

While it is still not 100% clear who, if anyone, the Reds will move for in January, a couple of names have been mooted for exits.

Liverpool could loan Trent Kone-Doherty

The Athletic have published a report on Liverpool’s potential January transfer plans this week.

Within it, they mentioned which players could end up being loaned out in the second half of 2025/26.

They say that clubs are continuing to monitor the progress of Trent Kone-Doherty, and January could be the ideal window for him to move.

The 19-year-old has made two senior appearances for Liverpool since signing from Derry City in 2022.

Kone-Doherty is a natural left-winger who, after scoring in a UEFA Youth League game in December 2024, earned high praise from former Reds striker Neil Mellor.

As per Belfast Live, he said: “Kone-Doherty, absolutely magnificent from the youngster. It’s absolutely fantastic, it really is. The strength, the run initially to offer that move in behind, it’s a decent ball, he’s onside, he’s asking the question in behind.

“He’s too strong for the defender, great first touch, just sets himself then gives the goalkeeper the eyes. That’s absolutely fantastic from Kone-Doherty.”

Trey Nyoni transfer interest

But Kone-Doherty is not the only Liverpool player who has been discussed for a January loan exit.

The aforementioned report also says that there could be loan interest in Rhys Williams after he failed to secure a move this past summer.

One man who may not end up moving despite limited first-team minutes, however, is Trey Nyoni.

Nyoni is said to have growing interest from clubs in Europe and the UK, but it’s stated that Liverpool’s current injury woes could change plans to loan out some youngsters.
