Chelsea are playing in the juicy Saturday evening kick off for Sky Sports this weekend, meaning there’s a lot of pre-match content. Enzo Maresca has been speaking to them ahead of the game, and was asked whether it was his team’s record against their rivals at the top of the table that was holding them back.

Enzo Maresca speaks about his Chelsea team’s prospects against top sides.
“Probably it’s correct in this moment, and it’s the reason why we are not probably in this moment close to the top is that we need to be more consistent against different kinds of teams,” Maresca admitted when asked about Chelsea’s struggles to beat the very best teams in the league.
“And it’s one of the targets for the future, to try to improve how to play games against these kinds of teams, and hopefully we can continue to do the right things against big teams.”
Today would be a great time to start – Aston Villa have surged ahead of us in the table and could make that lead up to ten points with a win today. That would be a scary prospect, and under the lights at home Maresca needs a statement win to send us into January looking dangerous and capable of competing.

Maresca dropped Enzo Fernandez against Newcastle last week and it didn’t work out too well – does he now bring him back in for this game? We’ll find out later this evening.
