Scorer: Florian Wirtz
Following tributes to Diogo Jota in the first match between the Portuguese’s two former club’s since his passing, Ryan Gravenberch broke the deadlock shortly before half-time after the Old Gold stood up well to their hosts’ early forays forward.
Some 90 seconds later, Wirtz - finding the back of the net for the first time in a competitive match since his arrival on Merseyside - prodded home past Jose Sa after collecting a through ball from the in-form Hugo Ekitike, sending Liverpool into the break with what looked to be a comfortable advantage.
Not long after the restart, though, Wolves pulled one back through Santiago Bueno following a corner, and as the match ticked on it was Rob Edwards’ crew who looked the likelier of the two sides to find a goal in the second half.
But in the end Wirtz’s effort proved to be the difference maker as Arne Slot’s men ended 2025 on a high, with Wolves remaining winless at the bottom of the Premier League table.
