Kendrick Perkins thinks Lakers should move on from LeBron

Kendrick Perkins questioned LeBron James future with the Lakers, saying the relationship has run its course after recent struggles and a blowout loss to the Rockets.

Los Angeles Lakers are facing growing questions about their direction, and much of the attention now centers on comments made by ESPN analyst Kendrick Perkins regarding LeBron James.

Los Angeles Lakers / Schedule

After the Lakers suffered a 119-96 loss to the Houston Rockets on Christmas Day, Perkins suggested that the partnership between James and the Lakers may be nearing its end.

Speaking on First Take, the former NBA center did not hold back when discussing what he sees as a clear shift.

“LeBron James and the Lakers, their relationship has run its course,” Perkins declared. “And they need to figure out a solution. And the solution is him not being in a Los Angeles Lakers uniform.”

While James has returned after missing the first month of the season with a sciatica injury, Perkins believes the roster no longer fits a true title push.

“LeBron has been to 10-15 NBA Finals," Perkins said (he's been to 10). "He knows when a roster is not good enough. Rich Paul, his agent, just said the Lakers are not title contenders. If Rich Paul is saying it, they both feel that way.”

Perkins also focused on James body language during the loss to Houston, where the Lakers struggled from start to finish. James finished with 18 points, five assists, and three turnovers, but Perkins felt the effort and engagement were lacking.

“Watching that game last night — and I was a teammate of LeBron James and grew up playing with him in AAU — I know this man. When he’s not engaged, or if he feels some type of way, it speaks in his body language,” Pekins said.

“And last night, his body language was awful," Perkins added. "He was not engaged. He was pouting, moping and walking up and down the damn floor, and he was complaining.”
