Aston Villa’s form is bordering on the ridiculous.
Unai Emery’s side secured an 11th straight victory after beating Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, once again coming from behind on the road to claim all three points.
In all five of their away league wins this season, Villa have turned games around after conceding first, and perhaps this was their most impressive comeback yet.
A fortnight ago, Villa twice came from behind against West Ham to win 3-2, with Morgan Rogers scoring twice. This time, against a Champions League competitor in Chelsea, it was Ollie Watkins whose double turned the game on its head.
Donyell Malen started ahead of Watkins at Chelsea, but after seeing little action in the final third, Emery brought on Watkins just before the hour mark.
It took him only a few minutes to draw Villa level, before heading in Youri Tielemans’ corner in the 84th minute to seal the win.
Villa’s first away league win of the season came at Tottenham, where they conceded an early goal through Rodrigo Bentancur. They also went behind early in games against Leeds United, Brighton, and West Ham.
Against Chelsea, they arguably deserved to be a couple of goals down at the break. Yet, to their credit, they stayed in the game until Emery made a triple substitution, bringing on Watkins, Amadou Onana, and Jadon Sancho.
Sancho, in particular, arguably played his best game in claret and blue, linking play brilliantly in the final third.
After once again coming from behind, Villa have now won more points from losing positions than any other Premier League team over the last three seasons (54).
They are also responsible for 45 per cent of all away wins by teams that conceded first this season (5/11). In Premier League history, only Manchester United in 2020-21 (nine) have won more away games after going 1-0 down in a single season than Villa’s five in 2025-26.
