Nico Schlotterbeck has Liverpool fans scrambling after Reds-related post on social media

Liverpool fans are turning their attention towards the January transfer window after signing off from 2025 with a victory over Wolves.

The Reds were not at their best once again on Saturday, but it was enough to secure a 2-1 win over the Premier League’s bottom side.

Transfers will now become the overriding topic of conversation, as Liverpool look to haul themselves up from a disappointing first half of the campaign.

Signing a new centre-back is right at the top of Liverpool’s to-do list, with supporters expecting to see a defender brought through the door.

Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck is reportedly a Reds’ target, and he added fuel to rumours that he’s on his way to Anfield with a personal message for match-winner Florian Wirtz after Saturday’s win.

Wirtz was easily Liverpool’s best player against Wolves. The German ran the show right from the first minute of the game, eventually scoring what turned out to be the winning goal.

It was a relief to see Wirtz finally find the net for Liverpool as he continues to grow into his role with the Reds.

Liverpool players were delighted for Wirtz, with many of them sending messages of support on his post-match Instagram update.

But eagle-eyed supporters also spotted German national team colleague Schlotterbeck among the well-wishers.

The centre-back posted a gif of Wirtz lifting his arms in a shrugging motion while in a Bayer Leverkusen shirt.

Liverpool supporters urge Schlotterbeck to join

Predictably, supporters who cottoned on to Schlotterbeck’s reply were quick to urge him to join Wirtz at Anfield.

At the time of writing, the 26-year-old has 57 replies to his post, virtually all of them from Reds fans instructing him to ‘come to Liverpool’.

Obviously, Schlotterbeck replying in such a way is unlikely to mean anything much. The two are teammates for Germany and clearly have an existing relationship.

But at a time when Liverpool are desperate for a new centre-back, Schlotterbeck was always going to cause a scramble here.

Reds’ supporters have made their feelings known, maybe it’s time for agent Wirtz to get on the phone to his countryman.
