Virgil van Dijk led tributes to Diogo Jota as his Liverpool team-mates reacted to their 2-1 win over Wolves
Liverpool moved into the Champions League places with a 2-1 win over Wolves, thanks to two quickfire first-half goals from Ryan Gravenberch and Florian Wirtz.
The Reds are now seven matches unbeaten in all competitions, six in the Premier League, after avoiding a late onslaught from the top-flight strugglers.
A slow start to the second-half and another set-piece conceded saw Santiago Bruno get on the scoresheet to halve the deficit and make for a nervy conclusion for Arne Slot's side. The Reds have struggled in the dying embers of matches throughout the campaign and during the unbeaten run, they have been the cause for their own downfall at times.
Liverpool sum up their season in one afternoon as needless nerves kick in against Wolves
The two-goal scoreline threatened to unravel, as it did against Leeds United at Elland Road, but Liverpool stood firm to move into the Champions League places and stay there thanks to Aston Villa's 2-1 win over Chelsea.
It was an emotional afternoon at Anfield, with Diogo Jota's two sons, Dinis and Duarte, and family members among the mascots who walked out with Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk.
Poignant pictures emerged with the Dutchman having a kick about with the Portugal international before tributes from Wolves, the team he joined Liverpool from, on 18 minutes, before Anfield came together for their own two minutes later.

Florian Wirtz has been the subject of criticism since making his £116million move to Liverpool; therefore, it was no surprise to see him bask in his first Premier League strike, fresh off the back of his first top-flight assist against Tottenham Hotspur. The Germany international finished well after superb play from Hugo Ekitike as the 22-year-old looks to be hitting his stride at Anfield. Wirtz posted a red heart to social media but interestingly, his song choice appeared to hit back at some doubters as he added American rapper Gunna's 'Made For This S***' song to his post. Hugo Ekitike has instantly become adorned by the Liverpool supporters following the blistering start to his Liverpool career. The Frenchman is showing some signs of iconic Reds striker Fernando Torres and although he wasn't on the scoresheet against Wolves, he turned provider for Wirtz's strike. The 23-year-old captioned his Instagram post: "Thanks 2025." But his activity didn't stop there as he shared his assist to his story, writing: "I see you young maestro @flowirtz." (Image: AP) 3 of 7
