Arsenal in talks with French defender

arsenal fc

Arsenal’s Sporting Director Andrea Berta has held exploratory talks about signing Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet, who is also of interest to Liverpool and Chelsea.

Although they arguably have one of the strongest squads in the Premier League, their recruitment strategy is based not just on what is needed for today, but also to lay the foundations for the future.

And 20-year old Jacquet is identified as somebody who could eventually compete for a first-team place at the Emirates and is regarded as one of the best defensive prospects to come out of France in recent years.

He has recently signed a new deal with the French club, so he will not come cheap. But Arsenal’s interest is sufficiently real that preliminary discussions have already taken place about signing him, although nothing is likely to happen until the summer.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have identified him as a possible replacement for Ibrahim Konaté who is out of contract at the end of the season, whilst Chelsea are also looking to strengthen their options in central defence.
