Tottenham could explore Man City’s Savinho move in January on ‘one condition’

It has been widely reported that Tottenham Hotspur are looking to add a wide forward to their roster in January.

Over the last few months, it has emerged that Spurs have been interested in signing Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, who is enjoying a fantastic season in the Premier League. However, earlier this week, there were claims that Semenyo prefers a move to Manchester City in January.

Now that their interest in the Ghana international has cooled down, the north London club can actually move on to alternative targets. Reliable journalist Dean Jones recently revealed that Semenyo’s potential arrival at Manchester City will lead to an overhaul in their wing department, opening the door for Tottenham’s summer transfer Savinho to leave in the winter transfer window.

Spurs notably made several attempts to sign Savinho from Manchester City in the summer transfer window. The 21-year-old had agreed personal terms with the north London club, which was a clear signal that he wanted to join Thomas Frank’s squad. However, Pep Guardiola blocked the Brazilian’s exit as he was against weakening his squad depth.

Tottenham could explore Savinho move again

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham are considering whether to make a renewed attempt to sign Savinho or not, on one condition. Before they plan to test City’s resolve with a bid in January, the Hotspur Way bosses want to understand just how keen the diminutive winger would be on the transfer.

The 21-year-old was keen on making the switch to Spurs in the summer, before he agreed to pen a new deal. However, Savinho has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter in Guardiola’s XI this season, starting just four of 14 Premier League outings. He was an unused substitute on Saturday when the Sky Blues overcame Nottingham Forest 2-1 at the City Ground.

And with talk of Semenyo potentially joining City next month, Savinho would have a big decision to make on his future.

Savinho would fit in well at Spurs

Savinho wouldn’t just be a long-term signing, however, as he’s more than capable of making an instant impact. Prior to joining City, he was a class performer at Girona in La Liga. He has shown flashes of his potential at the Etihad Stadium, but if groomed properly, the South American could become an elite winger.

With intense competition at City, and more to potentially come via Semenyo, Savinho would do a wise job by leaving the club. A move to Tottenham, in that regard, could be ideal for the winger, allowing him to kickstart his career by playing regularly and honing his talent under Frank. He can operate on either wing and would bring a dash of flair to the Lilywhites’ attack.

However, the onus will lie on Savinho. If the Brazilian trickster indicates via intermediaries his intention to leave Guardiola’s club and come to N17, Tottenham must then act decisively.
