Antoine Semenyo’s next move is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about stories in English football. The 25-year-old forward has been in fine form for Bournemouth this season, drawing attention from several of the Premier League’s biggest clubs. What makes his situation intriguing is the ticking clock on a release clause that could see him move for a fee of £65million when the January transfer window opens. Clubs are circling, discussions are underway, and Semenyo himself is keen to make a swift decision. Semenyo’s career has seen a rapid rise. The Liverpool sporting director, Richard Hughes, originally signed him from Bristol Rovers for £10million in January 2023 when Hughes was at Bournemouth. Now, just two years later, Semenyo is on the radar of the Premier League’s elite. His versatility, ability to play up front or on either wing, and aerial strength make him a prized asset. The first ten days of the January window are particularly significant because the £60million fee, plus £5million in add-ons, is only active then, though it will become live again next summer. Bournemouth have requested to keep him for key matches against Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham in early January, but it remains unclear if City or any other club would agree.

Recent reports have indicated that Manchester City appear to be leading the charge. And now, as per The Times, City are preparing to meet with Semenyo’s representatives within the next 24 hours. The timing is crucial. The report read, “Manchester City have stepped up their bid to sign Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth and are set to hold meetings with representatives of the in-demand forward in the next 24 hours.” With January 1 approaching, the release clause in Semenyo’s contract becomes active, making the decision urgent for both the player and potential suitors. While City have so far been the only club to formally contact Bournemouth about the forward, interest from Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea is also understood to be present. Tottenham Hotspur made an approach earlier this month but were rebuffed following news of the clause. City’s potential signing also has implications for the squad. Jérémy Doku has solidified his place on the left wing, but other wide options, including Savinho and Oscar Bobb, have struggled. Should Semenyo arrive, Bobb is expected to leave. The 22-year-old has started only two Premier League matches in the past four months and has lost his place in the Norway national team due to a lack of game time. Borussia Dortmund are among the clubs reportedly interested in him. For now, all eyes are on Manchester City and their discussions with Semenyo’s representatives, as the January transfer window promises a potential blockbuster move for the Bournemouth star.
