Arsenal can finally ditch Gyokeres for Hale End star who has “shades of Isak & Ekitike” -…

Arsenal just about got over the line again to stay at the top of the Premier League table against Brighton and Hove Albion.

Martin Odegaard would pick up a much-needed strike when firing Mikel Arteta's men into a one-goal lead in the first half, before a slice of fortune courtesy of a Georginio Rutter own goal from a Declan Rice corner kick delivery would hand the Gunners a slim 2-1 victory.

With only 33 goals scored so far this season in league action, Arteta's side isn't exactly being labelled as the overwhelming entertainers in the division. Rather, as BBC pundit Chris Wise put it, this Arsenal outfit is made of "sterner stuff" when adversity knocks.

Unfortunately, Viktor Gyokeres' statement £63.5m switch from Sporting in the summer just hasn't clicked as of yet, as the misfiring Swede underwhelmed yet again at the Emirates, up against the spirited Seagulls.

Gyokeres' ongoing struggles

Of course, when looking at the inconsistent goalscoring numbers spread all across the full Emirates camp, it isn't just Gyokeres in isolation struggling to fire home the goals.

But, for £63.5m, Arsenal would have been anticipating a lot more from the once lethal Swede, who had a mind-blowing 97 strikes next to his name in Portugal, before embarking on this new adventure with Arteta and Co.

Now, unfortunately, he is often cutting a frustrated figure, with only five strikes next to his name from 16 Premier League games donning Arsenal red.

In particular, he looked short on confidence up top against Fabian Hurzeler's men, with one big chance missed by the number 14 going down as an "unbelievable" opportunity to add to his weak Arsenal tally, according to former Gunners attacker Paul Merson.

With six big chances missed now, it could be time for Arteta to experiment up top, particularly if Gyokeres' misses prove to be costly, when Arsenal's luck runs out in attack.

Jesus-Arteta-Arsenal

Gabriel Jesus could be a viable replacement, with the Brazilian on 76 Premier League goals and back up to fitness, but Arteta might fancy a more left-field option to lead the line, in this Hale End sensation.

Arteta could unleash Arsenal's own Isak & Ekitike

The Spaniard has been known to throw in a homegrown star when they're deemed ready for the pressures of the senior game, with Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis Skelly boasting 109 first-team appearances between them under Arteta, having risen through the ranks in North London.

With Gyokeres yet to ignite at Emirates, Andre Harriman-Annous will hope he can be the next gem off the conveyor belt that makes a big impact in the men's team, having regularly shown off his goalscoring prowess for the U18s.

Indeed, the 18-year-old has managed to pick up 13 goals and five assists in the U18 picture, with one notable scout hailing the teenager as possessing "shades of Isak & Ekitike", the latter of whom has scored 11 strikes already for Liverpool, as a far more potent Premier League goalscorer than Gyokeres.

The London-born ace has since made the step-up to the U21s, and he's been handed a few opportunities here and there in the men's picture under Arteta, too, with a 77-minute run-out in the EFL Cup against Brighton back in October even seeing him line up alongside the likes of Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino.

Unfortunately, he didn't quite look at ease as Arsenal's leading man against the Seagulls, with one big chance passing him by, but there could be a route up to the first team for him very soon, having bagged six goals for the U21s alongside his blistering U18s form.

It would be a big risk to throw him in from the start immediately, but drip-feeding him more and more minutes might be the way forward as he grows accustomed to the pressures of playing for his boyhood club, especially if Arsenal's out-of-sorts number 14 continues to fail to live up to his hype.

Arsenal fans would love for Harriman-Annous to come good, with his debut against Brighton hailed as a "very special evening" by Arteta, as a homegrown solution to Gyokeres' woes is potentially unearthed.
