Report: Liverpool fans told to look out for clear sign that Antoine Semenyo is rejecting Man City to join them

Liverpool appear poised to jump in on the Antoine Semenyo transfer saga if given encouragement by the player himself.

A move away from Bournemouth has looked inevitable for Semenyo all season, and after reports emerged that he had chosen to join Manchester City, things looked done and dusted.

But rumours began on Sunday that Liverpool are not yet out of the race for Semenyo, with the Reds still making calls to convince the Ghanaian to alter his decision.

According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, however, Man City remain in pole position for Semenyo, with Liverpool yet to have engaged in club-to-club discussions.

The Reds are reportedly not quite out of the running just yet, though, with a new report from The Times suggesting a clear signal Liverpool fans should look out for as an indication that Semenyo has changed his mind.

Liverpool hoping Man City’s Antoine Semenyo deal is delayed

Whatever happens with Semenyo, it is going to have to be sorted out quickly. The 25-year-old’s release clause is reportedly only active until January 10th.

According to The Times, Bournemouth are keen to keep him until they’ve played both Arsenal and Tottenham on the 3rd and 7th of January respectively.

However, a decision on Semenyo’s future is likely to have been made before that, regardless of whether he leaves, with the former Bristol City man said to want his future resolved by January 1st.

This Thursday is reportedly seen as being a ‘key date’ in the story, and it’s claimed that if Semenyo’s move to City is not ‘all but concluded’ by then, it would likely mean interest from elsewhere is being considered.

With Tottenham already having been turned down by Semenyo, it appears that it is either City or Liverpool for Semenyo, meaning this is something Reds fans should be keeping their eyes peeled for.

When could Semenyo be available for Liverpool?

As things stand, it looks unlikely that any move for Semenyo will be wrapped up and concluded by January 1st, especially if he is to join Liverpool.

The Reds would likely appease Bournemouth’s wish to keep the winger until January 7th, meaning if he arrives at Anfield, the first game Semenyo could be available for is probably the FA Cup clash with Barnsley on January 12th.

In an ideal world, Liverpool would want him through the door to face Arsenal on January 8th, but that currently looks virtually impossible.

City should still be considered firmly in the driving seat for Semenyo, but if his future is still undecided by the time Liverpool face Leeds on Thursday, hope should start to spring amongst the fanbase.

In the meantime, the Reds badly need to start assessing what their other options are in the market.
