The latest Manchester City transfer news and gossip ahead of the January transfer window.

Manchester City are confident they will complete a deal to sign Antoine Semenyo in the first days of the January transfer window.

The Bournemouth star is in high demand, with interest from City and Liverpool in his signature, while there was also interest from Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham. Semenyo has a £65 million release clause in his current contract that is only active until 10 January, so that Bournemouth have enough time to replace him in the window.

It is understood Semenyo would like to have any transfer completed on the opening day of the window, with a proposed move to Man City at an 'advanced stage' amid ongoing talks between all parties. Liverpool are the other club still seriously interested in a deal and could yet make their own offer for the Ghana international following injury to Alexander Isak.

Man City 'confident' they will sign Semenyo

Antoine Semenyo is well aware he is entering the best years of his playing career and would like to move to a club that can offer him the chance to compete for major trophies on a long-term basis. It is also understood he wants a quick resolution so that he and his family can settle quickly and make an immediate impact at his new club.

Man City are the current favourites to get a deal done this week and it seems only a matter of time before an official agreement is in place between the two clubs.

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano issued an update on Semenyo's proposed move to Manchester. “Liverpool have always been calling for Semenyo; they started calling in November, they continued calling before Christmas, and they kept on calling during the recent days to understand the situation,” Romano said.

“But I can guarantee to you that as of tonight, Sunday night – I don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow because my job is not to predict the future but I have to tell you what’s happening today – Liverpool have never approached Bournemouth to start the conversation or to tell them, ‘Okay we’re going to pay the release clause’.

“And this didn’t happen because as of today, the player’s preference, already expressed a few days ago before Christmas Eve, is to go to Man City. Man City remain convinced that Antoine Semenyo wants to join them, Man City remain relaxed about the situation, and Man City will be in contact with Bournemouth – I told you – before the start of January to try to seal the deal for Semenyo as soon as possible.”
